§ 03 Billing · Refunds

Refund policy.

English Jan is a digital subscription service. This page explains when we issue refunds, what counts as cancellation versus refund, and how to contact us if you believe a charge was made in error.

Effective 2026-01-01 Version 1.0 Digital service only
In one minute

Cancelling a subscription stops future renewals. A refund reverses a past charge. We review refund requests case by case and reply within 48 business hours.

Web subscription charges are processed through Paddle, and approved refunds are returned by Paddle to the original payment method.

Scope

This policy applies to paid web subscriptions to the English Jan service. It is part of the terms of service.

Because English Jan is a digital service that grants access to study surfaces immediately on subscription start, refund eligibility is more limited than for a shipped physical product. The details below explain when an exception applies.

14-day right of withdrawal (Paddle Buyer Terms)

Web subscription charges for English Jan are processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd as the Merchant of Record. The following 14-day right of withdrawal applies to web purchases, in line with the Paddle Buyer Terms and applicable consumer-protection law.

You may withdraw from the purchase within 14 days of the date of the order and receive a full refund of the Charges paid for the relevant Product, provided that you have not, during that 14-day period, started downloading, streaming, using or otherwise benefiting from the Product.

The 14-day withdrawal right applies to:

  • One-off purchases made through the web checkout.
  • The first payment of a Subscription made through the web checkout.

The 14-day withdrawal right does not apply to subsequent Subscription renewal payments. English Jan does not currently offer a paid free trial on its web subscriptions.

To exercise the right of withdrawal, email alvinapps21@gmail.com within 14 days of the relevant charge and include the information listed in section 05 / How to request a refund. Approved refunds are returned by Paddle to the original payment method.

When refunds are available

We will issue a refund when one of the following applies:

  • Duplicate or incorrect charges — the same subscription cycle was billed more than once, or you were charged after cancellation took effect.
  • Persistent technical failure — you paid for premium access but were unable to use it for a sustained period due to a defect on our side, after we had a reasonable chance to fix it.
  • Unauthorised charge — the payment was initiated without your authorisation. We may request that you report the transaction to your bank and provide us with a reference.
  • Statutory right of withdrawal — where a mandatory consumer-law refund right applies in your country, we will honour it even if the cases above do not.

When refunds are not available

Refunds are not normally issued for:

  • Not using the service during a billing period that has already elapsed.
  • Forgetting to cancel before a renewal charge.
  • A change of mind after access has already been granted and used.
  • Not reaching a specific English proficiency level or a particular learning outcome.

In these cases we will help you cancel future renewals so that no further charges occur.

How to request a refund

Email alvinapps21@gmail.com with:

  • The email address associated with your English Jan account (the Google address used to sign in).
  • The purchase email and Paddle receipt or transaction reference, if available.
  • The approximate date of the charge, and the amount.
  • A short description of why you are requesting a refund.

We reply to refund requests within 48 business hours. If the request is approved, Paddle issues the refund to the original payment method.

06 /

Refund channel by platform

Web subscription refunds are handled through Paddle:

Paddle web billing
Refunds are processed through Paddle. Funds usually return to the original payment method within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
Partial billing cycle
Because subscription access is granted for the entire paid period, we do not normally prorate refunds for mid-cycle cancellations.

Cancellation is not the same as a refund

Cancellation stops future renewals. You keep access for the rest of the current billing period, and nothing further is charged.

Refund reverses a past charge. Refunds are only issued when a situation in Section 02 applies.

If you only need to stop future charges, you do not have to email us. Cancel from the profile screen or through the Paddle Buyer Portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep access until that date.

Chargebacks

If you initiate a bank chargeback before contacting us, your account may be suspended while the dispute is open. We prefer to resolve billing issues by email first — it is faster for you and avoids unnecessary account suspensions.

Changes to this policy

We may update this refund policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced by email or by an in-app banner at least 14 days before they take effect. Changes do not apply retroactively to charges made before the new policy takes effect.
